My Dog Ate My Night Guard!

Updated: Mar 17

I am a fairly organized person. So when my night guard went missing for a few days, I was a little concerned. Usually, it is in one of 2 places, but I couldn’t find it anywhere.

So imagine my surprise when it was finally located in Celeste’s (my dog’s) secret hiding place. It was still in one piece but nicely chewed. I couldn’t put that back in my mouth.

“My dog ate my night guard!”

I’ve heard this line from patients but I never thought it would happen to me.

It is unfortunate when you have a comfortable night guard and then it’s gone. Custom made night guards are expensive.

This is a cautionary tale.

Lesson learned. Always put your night guard in its case when not wearing it.

Normally, the case would be kept in the bathroom, near the toothbrush and such. But it might make sense to keep the case on your nightstand, so that if you do remove it from your mouth while still in bed (which is what I did), it will be safe and easily found.

Before our pets get to it.
